We teach school children and school dropouts, subjects like English, Maths and Science that are particularly difficult for them and help them graduate from school as well as enroll in colleges. These students mostly come from homes where the parents aren't highly educated and find it hard to help them academically.
After the first lockdown our team had started classes in Bhati Mines as well as in a slum behind Vasant Kunj, South Delhi. Our team had seen the impact of the lockdown on these children and were helping them catch up with their learning and assignments. But with Covid cases rising our team was aware that we would not be able to continue meeting students in person. So we set up a remote teaching and learning opportunity through our project called the DIGITAL CLASSROOM. We continued to build the connection between our students our teachers in Bhati Mines by setting up 32-inch LED TV through the support of our dedicated donor Dr. K V Kumar. We also set up internet, a computer and the TV in the rooms to hold online classes with the help of a trained student coordinator who set up and logged into the class for the students while our teachers logged in remotely. Our classes still continue to be creative and interactive learning experiences for the students.
As many families lost jobs during the pandemic, the children could no longer afford school textbooks and study material. Inspire stepped in to help senior-class students and provided them with study material and stationery required.
Inspire aims at holistic development of an individual challenging them to grow beyond the classroom education. Inspire partnered with the Pathways school, Noida and held workshops for young girls living in the community. The workshops provided a platform for engagement between students from different socio-economic backgrounds and fostered conversations on the topic of health, hygiene, career counseling and confidence building.
The Bhati Mines community records a high school drop-out rate among girls in middle school due to teenage marriages or early employment to support the family income. Inspire stepped in to encourage and assist such students with admission to schools and colleges, making sure that the flow of education was not broken. We help them fill admission forms and enroll them in in person colleges as well as distance learning courses based on abilities of each student
Many young girls living in such communities are forced to take-up responsibilities of managing the household very early in age resulting in a high school drop-out rate and early marriage. Many young boys fall prey to alcoholism and drug abuse when they are sent to work as daily wage labourers at nearby construction sites and mines.
Inspire steps in, to counsel parents and students to understand the vicious cycle of poverty and abuse while addressing the issues that prevent them from continuing their education and accessing a better quality of life. These are difficult conversations to have with families and are not always accepted but our staff work tirelessly and respectfully to build relationships where they can speak advice into their lives
